China’s cross-border passenger trips surged 112% on year since relaxing Covid controls

Since China downgraded the control measures COVID-19 on January 8, the country has logged 39.72 million cross-border passenger trips and 2.49 million cross-border transportation vehicles (ships, aircraft, and trains), surging 112.4% and 59.3%, respectively, from a year earlier, said the National Immigration Administration.

On February 25, the number of cross-border passenger trips has reached 1.013 million, breaking through one million mark for the first time since 2020, the authority said. 

The National Immigration Administration has issued 3.362 million ordinary passports, 12.672 million visas and endorsements for travel to Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and 122,000 foreign visas and residence permits, surging by 1,220.9%, 837.7%, and 33.1%, respectively, from before the implementation of the new measures, it said.
