China’s domestic travels during summer holiday this year exceeded 2019-level

China recorded a total of 1.839 billion domestic tourist trips during this year’s summer holiday (July 1 – August 31), accounting for 28.1% of the total tourist trips this year, according to China Tourism Academy, a think tank under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.

Tourism revenue totaled 1.21 trillion yuan, accounting for 28.1% of this year’s total, showed the data.

The intensity of this year’s summer travels was higher than the same period in 2019, with most tourist destinations seeing tourist volume hitting new record highs, it said. 

China recorded about 126 million air passenger trips in the period, an increase of 4.2% from the same period in 2019, according to flight information platform Hangban Guangjia. 

Chinese airlines executed over 870,000 passenger flights, rising by about 17% from the 2019-level and domestic air passenger trips exceeded 111 million, rising by about 11% from the same period in 2019, according to flight information platform Umetrip. 

China’s railway passenger trips during the period reached 830 million, marking a new record high for the same period, according to the railway operator.
