The number of domestic trips during the three-day New Year’s Day holiday (Jan. 1 – 3, 2023) is expected to jump 34% over the same period of this year, according to a report from China’s largest online travel agency Trip.com.Â
Inter-provincial travel will account for 60% of the total trips for the holiday, rising from the Mid-Autumn Festival in September, with bookings for flights and scenic spots climbing 21% and 33%, respectively, Trip.com said.
The 10 most popular city destinations are: Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Nanjing, Chongqing, Xiamen, and Sanya, showed the data. In particular, bookings to southern Hainan Island surging 232% for the holiday compared with the Mid-Autumn Festival and up about 20% for southwestern Yunnan province.
Booking volume of trips to Macau and Hong Kong surged 67% and 50%, respectively, from a year ago. Melbourne, Chinese Taipei, Singapore, Seoul, and Tokyo were among other popular cross-border tourist cities, Trip.Com noted.
