China’s electricity supply and demand balance will remain tight in 2023 and the total electricity consumption is expected to grow by about 6%, with some regions to see tight supply during some periods, said the China Electricity Council.

As China’s electrification accelerates, by 2030, the proportion of electrical power in the end-use energy consumption is expected to rise to about 35%, and electrical energy substitution in the sectors of industrial, construction, transportation, etc, will continue to increase, it said.

As the green and low-carbon transformation of electric power accelerates, by 2030, the proportion of installed generation capacity of non-fossil energy will reach about 60%, the proportion of non-fossil energy power generation will be close to 50%, and the proportion of newly added non-fossil power generation to the total newly added power consumption will reach about 90%, it said.
