CSRC gives green light to Guangzhou Futures Exchange for lithium carbonate futures, options

The China Securities Regulatory Commission has give greenlight the Guangzhou Futures Exchange to register lithium carbonate futures and options, according to a statement on the website of the CSRC.

Next, the CSRC will surpervise and guide the exchange to do a good work to ensure stable introduction and operation of the lithium carbonate futures and options.

China is the world’s largest lithium carbonate producer and consumer. In 2022, China produced 379,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate and its apparent consumption of lithium carbonate reached 505,000 tonnes, accounting fro 63% and 81%, respectively, of the world’s total, the Guangzhou exchange said.

Calculated with an average price of 482,400 yuan per tonne in 2022, China’s lithium carbonate consumption market reached about 243.6 billion yuan, it said.

Next, the Guangzhou exchange will steadily proceed with the preparations for the launch and steady operation of the lithium carbonate futures and options, it said.
