Most parts of China will experience higher-than-average temperatures this summer and power supply and demand situation remains tight, with some regions likely to see a power shortage during peak period, according to state-backed China Energy News.

China’s electricity consumption this year is expected to reach around 9.25 trillion kWh this year, an increase of about 7% from the previous year, the research institute of the State Grid had estimated.

Due to the base effect in 2022, the growth of electricity consumption in the second and fourth quarters will be significantly higher than the first and third quarters, according to the report.

By sector, electricity consumption in the secondary and tertiary industries is expected to rebound significantly from the previous year, with the secondary industry becoming the main driving force, it said.
