China’s major machinery manufacturers sold a total of 13,105 units of excavators in August, sliding 27.5% from a year earlier, narrowing slightly from the 29.7% drop in July, and the sales rose by 10.89% from the previous month, according to data released by the China Construction Machinery Association.

In breakdown, domestic sales reached 5,669 units, sliding 37.7% from a year earlier, and exports reached 7,436 units, sliding 17.2%, showed the data.

The month-on-month pickup in excavator sales last month came after the Chinese government announced a series of real estate policy relaxations, which is expected to benefit the construction machinery sector, while excavator exports came weaker than expected due to high base last year, said industry insiders.

In the first eight months of the year, the total sales of excavators reached 134,529 units, sliding 24.9% from a year earlier, and of those, domestic sales fell 43.5% to 61,812 units and exports rose 4.42% to 72,717 units, showed the data.
