China’s exports grew 8.5% on year in Apr, imports fell 7.9%

China’s exports, in US dollar terms grew by 8.5% in April from a year earlier, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs, compared to 8% growth expected by analysts and the 14.8% growth in the previous month.

China’s imports declined by 7.9% in April from a year earlier, compared to expected 0.2% drop and the 1.4% fall in the prior month.

In the yuan terms, China’s exports grew by 16.8% in April from a year earlier, compared to the 23.4% growth in the previous month, while imports declined by 0.8%, compared to 6.1% gain in March, showed the data.

In the first four months of the year, China’s total exports and imports reached 13.32 trillion yuan, rising by 5.8% from a year earlier, with exports rising 10.6% to 7.67 trillion yuan and imports rising by 0.02% to 5.65 trillion yuan, according to the customs data.
