China’s imports rose in June for the first time since the coronavirus outbreak began, as demand for commodities surged on the back of government stimulus, while exports also increased in a sign the recovery is gaining traction.

China’s imports rose 2.7 per cent in June from a year earlier, customs data showed on Tuesday, better than expectations for a 10 per cent drop and improving significantly from a 16.7 fall in the previous month.
