China’s grain imports surged nearly 30% in 2020, uncertainties in farm goods supply remain

China's grain output is expected to maintain a tight balance amid uncertainties in global grain supply chain.

China imported a total of 142.6 million tonnes of grains in 2020, rising by 31.18 million tonnes or 28 per cent from the year before, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs this week.

"As imported grains gradually arrives, they will effectively supplement domestic supplies," Qin Yuyun, official at the country’s National Food and Strategic Reserves Administration (NFSRA) said at a press conference, adding that a large amount of imported corn . . .
