China’s lithium carbonate output reached 168,000 tonnes in the first half of the year, surging 42.4% from a year earlier, and output of lithium hydroxide reached 110,000 tonnes, rising 35% from a year ago, according to data from state-backed research house Antaike.

China’s output of raw nickel (nickel products produced from raw materials, including electrolytic nickel, nickel pig iron, nickel salt, etc. ) reached 364,000 tonnes in the first half, an increase of 6.4% from the same period last year, with nickel sulfate, a material for lithium battery production, surging 34.5% on year, showed the data.

Output of refined cobalt reached 58,000 tonnes in the first six months, a drop of 6.9% from a year ago, showed the data.

Nickel, cobalt and lithium are important materials for production of electric vehicle power batteries.

According to data from China’s customs administration, China’s imports of nickel ore concentrate reached 15.1 million tonnes in the first half, falling 8.3% from a year earlier; imports of electrolytic nickel reached 83,000 tonnes, falling 3.7% on year; imports of cobalt concentrate and intermediate cobalt product via a hydrometallurgical route reached 12,000 tonnes and 160,000 tonnes, respectively, rising 79.2% and 4% from a year earlier.

China’s imports of lithium concentrate reached 1.16 million tonnes, rising 13.5% on year and imports of lithium hydroxide reached 71,000 tonnes, surging 66.5% from a year ago, showed the data.
