China’s mobile game sector recovers, revenue hit record high in January – research

A total of 41 Chinese game publishers ranked among the world’s Top 100 in terms of revenue in January, grossing nearly $2.2 billion, accounting for 40% of the total revenue generated by the top 100 companies last month, according to market research company Sensor Tower.

China’s mobile game sector gradually recovered during the winter break and the Spring Festival holidays and the industry’s revenue hit a new record high in January, it said.

Tencent’s mobile game titles including Honor of Kings and Game for Peace saw revenue rise across the board last month, leading its online game revenue to rise 26% from the month before and 14.8% year over year to a new record high in January, showed the data.

Shares of Chinese mobile companies rallied in Hong Kong, with Homeland Interactive surging more than 16.5%, FriendTimes up 6.4%, XD Inc up nearly 4%, Tiange up 1.7%, NetEase up 1.4%, Tencent up 0.8%.
