China’s mobile phone shipments fell at slower pace in Jul, 5G handset shipments rose 2.6%

China’s mobile phone shipments reached 18.55 million units in July, falling by 6.8% from a year earlier, narrowing significantly from the 20.9% drop in June, according to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, a think tank under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. 

Of those, shipments of 5G-powered smartphones reached 15.058 million units in July, up 2.6% from a year earlier, showed the data, compared to the 24.8% drop in June.

In the first seven months of the year, China’s mobile phone shipments reached 148 million units, falling by 5.1% from the same period last year, and of those, shipments of 5G-powered mobile phones fell 5.3% to 117 million units, according to the academy .
