China’s passenger cars rose 28% on year in May, up 7.3% on month

China’s retail sales of passenger vehicles reached 1.76 million units in May, rising by 28.2% from a year earlier and up 7.3% from the previous month, according to data released by the China Passenger Car Association on Thursday.

Passenger car output reached 1.99 million units in May, rising by 18.7% from a year earlier and up 14.8% from the previous month, showed the data.

In the first five months of the year, retail sales of passenger vehicles reached 7.74 million units, rising by 4% from the same period last year, it said.

China’s retail sales of new energy vehicles reached about 580,000 units, rising by 60.9% from a year earlier and up 10.5% from the previous month, said the China Passenger Car Association.
