China’s tourism industry achieved growth in 2021, but still struggled at half of pre-pandemic levels

China's tourism industry, which had been hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic, achieved growth in 2021 from the previous year, but was still struggling at around half of pre-pandemic levels.

Chinese tourists made 3.246 billion domestic trips in 2021, rising 12.8% from a year earlier, and domestic tourism revenue grew 31% to 2.92 trillion yuan, according to data released by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism.
