Chinese banks’ bond sales hit record in Q2, small banks rushed to issue bonds for capital replenishment

Chinese banks issued a record amount of bonds in the second quarter of the year driven by strong demand for capital replenishment among smaller banks which were hit hard by the Covid-19 pandemic.

According to data from Wind Information, Chinese banks had issued 464.5 billion yuan worth of bonds this year as of June 24, representing a 20 per cent increase from the same period last year. In particular, issuance in the second quarter had reached 303.6 billion yuan, a new record high for the same period.
