China’s economy returned to growth in the second quarter after a deep contraction in the proceeding three month, but domestic consumption and investment remained weak as the impact of the coronavirus outbreak persists.

China's gross domestic product (GDP) rose 3.2 per cent in the second-quarter from a year earlier, the National Bureau of Statistics said on Thursday, beating the 2.5 per cent growth forecast by analysts, as China ended lockdown measures and ramped up stimulus to short up the pandemic-led economy.
