Chinese Premier Li Qiang on Wednesday chaired a symposium with platform companies about promoting regulated, healthy and sustained development of the platform economy, reported state broadcaster CCTV. 

Representatives from Alibaba Cloud, Meituan, Douyin, Pingduoduo, JD.com, Xiaohongshu, etc, attended the symposium, it said.

The platform economy provides a new room for expanding demand, a new engine for innovation and development, a new channel for employment and entrepreneurship, and a new support for public services, and its role in the economy are becoming increasingly prominent, Li said.

Li hopes that platform companies will continue to promote innovation breakthroughs, better empower the development of the real economy, fulfill their social responsibilities, enhance international competitiveness, and make their mark in leading development, creating jobs and international competition.

Li urged local governments to create a fair market environment, improve policies and regulations and improve the mechanism for communications with platform companies and address the companies’ difficulties and promote healthy and sustained development of the platform economy.
