Chinese President Xi Jinping called for greater efforts to lift the country’s opening-up to a new level at a meeting of the central commission for deepening overall reform on Tuesday.
“In building a new development pattern and promoting structural opening up, key areas of foreign exchange and cooperation such as investment, trade, and financial innovation should be focused on,” state broadcaster CCTV quoted Xi as saying.
He emphasized efforts to build new systems for a higher-standard open economy and to promote the gradual transition from dual control over the amount and intensity of energy consumption to dual control over the amount and intensity of carbon emissions.
China’s development is currently facing a complex and difficult international situation and efforts should be made to improve the top design for new systems for a higher-standard open economy, deepen institutional reforms in trade and investment, expand market access and compressively optimize the business environment, the meeting said.
China will adhere to the bottom-line thinking and extreme-scenario thinking, pay close attention to improving the national security system and mechanism, and strive to improve the ability and level of supervision in opening-up, according to the meeting.
