Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Bill Gates, Co-Chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, in Beijing on Friday, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Xi said to Gates that “You are the first US friend I have met this year. I always believe that the foundation of Sino-US relations lies in the people and I have hopes on the American people.”

“Under the current world situation, we can do all typles of activities that benefit the two countries, the two peoples, and humanity as a whole. We all act as facilitators in this regard,” Xi said.

China is committed to promoting the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation through Chinese-style modernization, and China will never follow the old path of hegemony, but will work with other countries to achieve common development” said Chinese President Xi Jinping to Bill Gates. 

China is willing to engage in cooperations in scientific and technological innovation with other countries, and actively participate in and contribute to addressing global challenges in climate change, epidemics and public health, Xi said. 

China is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and provide support to other developing countries within its capacity, he said.
