The Hong Kong government is brewing various proposals and has asked the service sector to find ways to extend the business hours of shopping malls to 10pm – 11pm, according local media citing sources.

The preliminary proposal is to launch a campaign to promote the night economy after the Mid-Autumn Festival (29 Sep), and will continue for a period of time straddling the National Day of China, the report said.

Deputy Financial Secretary Michael Wong said on social media that the government was studying different measures to revitalise the night-time economy, and he hoped that night-time activities would attract more people and result in a “win-win” situation for both the public and the businesses.
