The Shanghai Composite Index fell 1.34% to drop below 3,100 mark and closed 3,078. The Shenzhen Component Index fell 2.14% to 10,152.6, the lowest level since May 2022. The tech-heavy Chinext Price Index slid 2.3% to 2,038, a new low since May 2020.

Securities brokerages, power generation equipment companies, software developers, semiconductor companies, defence stocks, construction companies, machinery manufacturers and automakers were mostly lower.

Coal miners, environmental protection companies, oil and gas companies and banks outperformed.

Overseas investors sold a net 10.5 billion yuan of Chinese A-shares via the Mainland – Hong Kong Stock Connect on Wednesday, marking the 13th consecutive trading day of net selling. 

Overseas investors sold a total of net 77.95 billion yuan of Chinese A-shares via the Stock Connect during the 13 trading days.
