China’s top diplomat Wang Yi met with former US diplomat Henry Kissinger in Beijing on Wednesday, according to a statement released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Wang said that Kissinger has made historic contributions to ice-breaking and development of China-US relations and played an irreplaceable role in enhancing mutual understanding between the two countries, according to a statement released by China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

China’s development has a strong endogenous power and inevitable historical logic and any attempt to transform and contain China will fail, said Wang.

US policy toward China requires Kissinger-style diplomatic wisdom and Nixon-style political courage, said Wang.

Kissinger said that both the US and China are able to influence the world and it’s a matter of world peace, stability and human well-being for the two countries to maintain a stable relationship, therefore, no matter how difficult it is, both sides should treat each other as equals and remain engaged, and it’s unacceptable to isolate or segregate the other side.

One China is a serious commitment made by the US in the Shanghai Communiqué, and “I believe it won’t be wavered or reneged upon,” said Kissinger.
