The Shanghai Composite Index slid 1.2% to close at 3,051, the Shenzhen Component Index down 0.4% and the tech-heavy Chinext Price Index closed 0.8% higher after plunging 2.3% at one point.
Precious metal companies and oil companies led the losses, with the two indexes tracking the two sectors compiled by Wind Information plummeting 6.3% and 5.3%, respectively. ZIjin Mining tumbled by the daily limit of 10% before paring loss to 8% at the market close, CNOOC tumbled 8.7%, its worst one-day performance since its listing, and PetroChina tumbled 6%.
Shipbuilding companies, aerospace companies, agriculture companies, steelmakers were also sharply lower. Catering companies, tourism companies, liquor makers and home appliance makers outperformed.
