China’s coal output grew at slower pace in August, coal imports returned to growth

China produced 370 million tonnes of coal in August, largely in line with the previous month, rising by 8.1% from a year earlier, slowing significantly by 8 percentage points from the previous month, leaving average daily output at 11.95 million tonnes, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics.

China imported 29.46 million tonnes of coal in August, rising by 5% from a a year earlier, compared to 21.8% drop in July, showed the data.

In the first eight months of the year, China’s coal output rose by11% to 2.93 billion tonnes and coal imports fell by 14.9% to 167.98 million tonnes, showed the data.
