China’s exports grew 18% on year in July, imports remained sluggish

China’s exports, in US dollar terms, grew by 18% in July from a year earlier, compared to the 17.9% growth in June, while imports grew by 2.3%, compare to 1% gain the previous month, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on Sunday.

That’s compared to expectations of 14.1% growth in exports and 4% growth in imports.

China’s trade surplus expanded by 81.5% to $89 billion in July, compared to $97.9 billion in the the previous month and expected $89 billion.

Exports, in yuan terms, grew by 23.9% in July from a year earlier, compared to the 22% growth in June, while imports grew by 7.4%, compare to 4.8% gain the previous month, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on Sunday.

That’s compared to expectations of 19.6% growth in exports and 5.7% growth in imports.

China’s trade surplus expanded by 90.9% to 682.69 billion yuan in July, compared to 650.1 billion yuan in the the previous month and expected 600 billion yuan.

China’s total imports and exports reached 23.6 trillion yuan in the first seven months of the year, rising 10.4% from a year earlier, showed the data.

That included 13.37 trillion yuan of exports, rising 14.7% from a year earlier; and imports reached 10.23 trillion yuan, rising 5.3% from a year ago, showed the data.

China’s trade with the ASEAN, the EU and the US reached 3.53 trillion yuan, 3.23 trillion yuan and 2.93 trillion yuan, respectively, in the seven-month period, rising 13.2%, 8.9% and 11.8% from the same period last year, showed the data.

The ASEAN remained China’s top trade partner during the period, with bilateral trade accounting for 15% of China’s total foreign trade.
