China has 840 international passenger flights scheduled per week, surging 105.9% a year earlier, said aviation authority

Chinese and overseas airlines currently schedule a total of 840 international passenger flights from and to China per week, or 420 round trip flights per week for this winter/spring seeason, surging by 105.9% from the season in 2021/22, according to the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

They schedule 6,149 international cargo flights from and to China every week, a rise of 6.7% from a year earlier, said the administration.

For the winter/spring season between Oct 30, 2022 – Mar 25, 2023, a total of 127 domestic and foreign airlines schedule 104,573 passenger and cargo flight, said the regulator.

Shares of Chinese airlines and airport operators are rallying, with Juneyao Airlines gaining more than 5% in the A-share market, China Southern Airlines up more than 3% and Shanghai Airport up more than 2%.

China Eastern Airlines, one of the country’s three largest state-owned carriers, said last week that it will resume several international passenger routes including Shanghai-Bangkok-Qingdao, Hangzhou/Qingdao/Nanjing/Kunming – Tokyo Narita, Qingdao/Nanjing/Yantai – Seoul Incheon, Qingdao-Dubai.

Its weekly international passenger flights will rise to 42 lines and 108 flights after the latest adjustments, compared to 25 lines and 54 flights at the start of October, the carrier said.

According to data from flight data provider Variflight, China’s International passenger flights reached 103 on Oct 16, 2.2 times the 41 flights on June 4, but representing only around 5% of that in the same period in 2019 before the pandemic struck.

Searches for inbound passenger flight ticket on Chinese online travel agency Tongcheng in October has surged 63% from that in September, and booking volume rose by 28%, according to data from Tongcheng. Read more …
