China’s passenger trips plunged during 40-day Spring Festival travel rush due to Covid-19 flare-ups

The number of passenger trips in China tumbled during the 40-day Spring Festival travel rush compared to 2019 and 2020 after the government encouraged Chinese people to stay put for the holiday to help contain a series of Covid-19 flare-ups.

According to data released by the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday, China's total passenger trips during the travel rush (January 28 - March 8) totaled about 870 million, down 40.8 per cent from the same period in 2020 and down 70.9 per cent from the holiday period in 2019 before the Covid . . .
