Chongqing to restrict power use by industrial users, Pengzhou in Sichuan to restrict power use in shopping malls, supermarkets

Chongqing city, neighbouring Southwest China’s Sichuan province, said that the city’s power load has been climbing due to long-lasting high-temperature weather and it faces a large shortage during peak hours, according to a statement released by the local authority and the State Grid Chongqing Electric Power Corp.

To ensure power supply to residential power users, Chonagqing imposes restrictions on power use by industrial users from August 17 until August 24, it said.

The city of Pengzhou, Southwest China’s Sichuan province, will restrict power use by commercial users in order to ensure power supply to residential users and avoid outage amid the ongoing power crunch, reported The 21st Century Business Herald, citing a notice issued by the local authority.

The authority asked commercial venues including shopping malls, supermarkets and commercial streets, etc to turn off air conditioner and elevators and it will make sure commercial users’ power load accounts for no more than 30% of the city’s total power load, effective from August 17 until further notice.

Earlier, Dazhou, another city in Sichuan, said that if it’s unable to ease the ongoing power shortage even after it has made all possible efforts, it will restrict power use by residential users for two-and-a-half hours, according to a notice released by Dazhou Electric Power Group on Tuesday afternoon.
