The Shanghai Futures Exchange is looking into the possible launch of nickel futures for international traders, according to industry sources familiar with the matter.
The exchange has been studying the structure of the nickel market and supply and demand to meet the demand from industry participants, they said.
It will launch the nickel contracts on its International Energy Exchange (INE) to give international firms access, they said.
ShFE is currently consulting with the industry, with no final decisions on the launch date and contract specification, they added.
