Tencent Holdings is in talks for an exclusive deal to sell Meta’s Quest virtual reality (VR) headset in mainland China, the Wall Street Journal reported, cited people with knowledge of the matter.
Meta has initiated negotiations with several Chinese technology firms since late 2022, including Tencent, Lenovo, and certain smartphone makers, with Tencent most likely to emerge as an exclusive dealer for the VR headset in China, the report said.
Subsequently, Tencent will be able to leverage this opportunity to develop its VR hardware business. The company and its gaming studio, as suggested by some sources, has already begun the development of VR game titles.
Tencent has declined to comment on the media report.
