XPeng Motors’ flagship SUV, the G9, received 22,819 pre-orders in 24 hours after it opened for pre-sale, with the first pre-order coming from Shanghai, the company said on social media Weibo on Thursday.
XPeng announced on August 10 that G9 was available for consumer pre-orders, with the official launch set for September. The model was originally unveiled at the Guangzhou auto show in late November last year. Consumers can pay 2,000 yuan ($300) to reserve the XPeng G9, and the deposit is refundable at any time.
XPeng said the G9 is China’s first production vehicle built on the 800V high-voltage SiC platform and can get a 200km range in 5 minutes of charging time, making it the world’s fastest charging production vehicle. The carmaker will begin laying out the 800V high-voltage charging system in China this year, with a maximum charging power of 480 kW and a maximum current of 670 A, it said.
The model can reach a maximum CLTC range of 702 kilometers, the company said. XPeng G9 is the smartest in a luxury car, the most luxurious in a smart car and the fastest charging in a mass-produced car, its chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said.
