China’s auto sales rose over 32% on year in August, new energy vehicle sales doubled on year

China’s automobile sales reached 2.383 million units in August, falling 1.5% from the previous month and rising 32.1% from a year earlier, according to the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers.

Auto production reached 2.395 million units in August, falling 2.4% from the month before and rising by 38.3% from a year earlier, said the association.

For the first eight months of the year, China’s auto sales reached 16.86 million units, rising 1.7% from the same period last year, and auto production reached 16.967 million units rising 4.8% year over year, according to the association.

New energy vehicle sales reached about 666,000 units in August, rising 100% from a year earlier, and new energy vehicles production reached about 691,000 units last month, rising 120% from a year earlier, according to the association.

Of that, sales of pure electric vehicles reached about 536,000 units and output reached about 522,000 units, rising by 92.9% and 110% from a year earlier, said the association.
