China’s power generation grew at faster pace in Jul, coal-fired power slowed, wind power returned to growth

China’s electricity generation reached 846.2 billion kWh in July, rising by 3.6% from a year earlier, accelerating by 0.8 percentage points from June, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. 

In the first seven months, power generation rose by 3.8% year over year to 5.01 trillion kWh.

In breakdown, coal-fired, nuclear and solar power generation grew at a slower pace in Jul, the drop in hydro power generation narrowed, while wind power generation returned to growth, said the NBS. 

Coal-fired power generation grew by 7.2% in July from a year earlier, slowing by 7 percentage points from June; hydro power fell by 17.5%, narrowing by 16.4 percentage points; nuclear power grew by 2.9%, slowing by 10.9 percentage points; wind power surged by 25%, compared to 1.8% drop in June; and solar power grew by 6.4%, slowing by 2.4 percentage points, showed the data.
