The Yangtze Delta Regions, one of China’s largest city clusters and covering Shanghai and its neighbouring cities, recorded more than 370 million railway passenger trips in the first half of the year, with a daily average of more than 2 million, said the Shanghai Railway Bureau.

In April, May and June, the total railway passenger trips reached nearly 210 million, rising by more than 10% from the same period in 2019, it said.

On May 1, the railway passenger trips hit 3.71 million, marking a new record high for the regions.

The bureau expects railway passenger trips during the summer holiday (July 1 – August 31) to exceed 150 million, significantly higher than the same period in 2019.
