China’s factory activities contracted for third consecutive month – official survey

China’s manufacturing activities remained in contraction in June for the third consecutive month, with the official manufacturing PMI at 49, picking up slightly from previous 48.8, according to data released by the National Bureau of Statistics. 

Among the five sub-indexes, production and suppliers’ delivery time are above the 50 mark the separate expansion from contraction, while new orders, raw materials’ inventory and employment remained below 50. 

The sub-index for production stood at 50.3, returning to expansion and picking up by 0.7 percentage points from previous month, while the sub-index for new orders stood at 48.6, picking up by 0.3 percentage points. The sub-index for employment fell 0.2 percentage point to 48.2. 

China’s manufacturing PMI picked up slightly in June, and among the 21 industries surveyed, 12 industries’ PMI improved from the previous month, increasing by 4 from May, indicating that the overall situation in the manufacturing sector has improved, said the NBS.

In breakdown, large-sized companies’ PMI stood at 50.3% in June, picking up by 0.3 percentage points from the previous month; medium-sized companies’ PMI stood at 48.9, picking up by 1.3 percentage points, while small-sized PMI stood at 46.4, falling by 1.5 percentage points, showed the data.
