China’s mobile phone shipments fell 20.9% on year in Jun, new model launches fell 35.3% – government think tank

China’s mobile phone shipments reached 22.15 million units in June, sliding 20.9% from a year earlier, according to data released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, a think tank under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. 

Of that, shipments of 5G smartphones reached 17.32 million units, sliding 24.8% from a year earlier and accounting for 78.2% of the total handset shipments, showed the data. 

In the first six months of the year, mobile phone shipments reached 130 million units, falling by 4.8% from a year ago, with shipments of 5G smartphones falling 6.4% to 102 million units, accounting for 78.9% of the total shipments, showed the data.

A total of 22 new mobile phone models were launched in June, sliding 35.3% from a year earlier, and in particular, 7 new models of 5G smartphones were launched in June, slumping 72% from a year earlier.

In the first six months of the year, 203 new models of mobiles phone were launched, up 1% from a year earlier, and that included 85 5G smartphone models falling 24.1% from a year ago.
